Corston Couture Production Process...
After 19 years of business, and (as of October 08) 1157 number of dresses, we find that the following process is the most stress-free for the bride-to-be and for us—as well as producing consistently beautiful results. We also know we cannot give the proper attention to the prospective bride if we have more than four wedding booked on the one weekend, so we limit the number of gowns we book in to four per weekend.
01.
We begin with a one hour free consultation (valued at $120.00) to help you determine what style and colour gown will suit you, both personally and for the type of event you are planning. At the end of the hour it is usually quite clear what dress styles suit and what don’t. A quotation and sketch will be given to you, which includes all fabric, fittings and GST. Right now, with the volatile economic climate the quotations can only be valid for 30 days, but we can re-quote. With a determination to constantly improve our processes, we find that the following process is the most stress-free for the bride and for us as well as producing consistently beautiful results.
02.
We offer a second appointment free to show your mum and/or your best friends and make a final decision. (Additional pre-order fitting appointments are charged at $100.00 per hour).
03.
To begin the process of manufacturing your gown, we need measurements and payment. We have two payment options:
1. Payment in full, up front, with a 10% discount, or
2. Equal monthly credit card payments, until the gown is completed.
04.
Once we have your measurements, we make a toile (calico basic version of your gown) and fit this exactly to your body. This first toile is re-cut with any adjustments needed and a second toile fitting of the entire gown in is done in calico. Both these fittings allow us to make any fit and size change adjustments before we cut the expensive silk fabric and laces we will use for your gown.
Every CORSTON gown is manufactured 'in house'. Both shops have workrooms attached, and all work is done on-site. This avoids the possibility of mishaps such as loss during transportation, and also allows the person who did the fittings on the gown to control or do the work on the gown.
05.
There are two more fittings in the actual fabric.
06.
You have an appointment for picking up your gown. This appointment is standardly booked for three weeks before your wedding. (We have found that this is close enough to the wedding to be sure the gown will fit on the day, but also early enough so you do not suffer any additional stress at this high-pressure time, wondering if your gown will be ready before the wedding).
07.
You will try the gown on again to ensure that it fits perfectly. If any adjustments need to be made to the size of the gown, due to weight loss, there is still time to do so. (Under some circumstances, where brides are consistently losing weight due to the stress of the wedding preparations, the back of the gown may be left open until the last week, fitted and finished off in this last week to ensure a perfect fit.
